Summer Programs

Summer's at Lake Country are now better than ever with our revamped summer program! Weekly themed summer programs are available to the public and LCS families for students entering K-4th grade. Based on the Exploring Nature with Children curriculum, each day students will explore books, games, nature journaling, and nature walks with an eye to the nature theme of the week. The afternoons will be filled with music, Spanish, and lots of outside play! At the end of each week your student will show what they know in a talent/knowledge show.

Explore Our Weekly Themed Camps

Wk 1: Summer Solstice 6/16/2025-6/20/2025

The summer solstice marks the longest day and the shortest night of the year. Come revel in all things summer: sunshine, dandelions, butterflies, wildflowers, caterpillars, and all the shades of green. We will take daily nature walks in the garden, collect items, for our nature table, explore nature journaling and enjoy solstice cookies.

We will be closed 6/19/25 to honor Juneteenth

Cost $350/student/week. Program runs from 9am-4pm. Extended Day care offered from 4-5pm for an additional $60/student/week.

Wk 2 Blossoms and Honeybees 6/23/2025-6/27/2025

This week as we take nature walks with your child, we will look around to see if we can spot any trees or shrubs in blossom. We will observe and discuss the colours, shapes, and glorious scents of the flowers. Of course, where there are flowers - there are pollinators! We will look for honeybees, draw bees and flowers in our journals, and enjoy honey-themed snacks this week!

Cost $350/student/week. Program runs from 9am-4pm. Extended Day care offered from 4-5pm for an additional $60/student/week.

Wk 3 Summer Tree Study 7/7/25-7/11/25

Summer is a spectacular time to observe trees. Bursting with life, their greenery fills the summer sky. On our nature walk this week, we will choose a special tree and make a list of all the different living things you can see that have made their homes there. We will write a poem about our trees, and create a collage to show how our tree changes over the seasons.

Cost $350/student/week. Program runs from 9am-4pm. Extended Day care offered from 4-5pm for an additional $60/student/week.

Wk 4 Weather 7/14/25-7/18/25

What are clouds? Why are they white? Why is the sky blues? During weather week we will record our observations about the weather each day - the temperature, strength of the wind, and how the animals and bugs are reacting to it. We will learn about different types of clouds and how they help us predict the weather. We will also explore various extreme weather conditions and disasters.

Cost $350/student/week. Program runs from 9am-4pm. Extended Day care offered from 4-5pm for an additional $60/student/week.

Wk 5 Nature Adventure and Moths 7/21/25-7/25/25

Did you know that invertebrates - like moths - make up 80% of all living things on the planet? What is the difference between moths and butterflies anyway? This week we will explore moths through books, painting, poems, and more! Since moths can mostly be observed at dusk, we will discuss the best way to find them at home, and children will report back about which ones they've observed! We will also have a nature field trip this week to Bde Maka Ska to swim at the lake!

Cost $350/student/week. Program runs from 9am-4pm. Extended Day care offered from 4-5pm for an additional $60/student/week.

Wk 6 TBD Kids vote week 7/28/25-8/1/25

This week's topics will be determined by your child! The kids will have a chance to explore a topic of their choice - through reading, puzzles, painting, and of course through daily nature walks. They can choose to dive deeper into something we have already introduced, or choose a completely new idea. In addition, we will enjoy picnic lunches, music, Spanish, water play, and group games!

Cost $350/student/week. Program runs from 9am-4pm. Extended Day care offered from 4-5pm for an additional $60/student/week.

Wk 7 Senses Walk 8/4/25-8/8/25

This week on our nature walks, we will focus on all the luscious sensory information that the summer provides - what do you see, smell, taste, hear, feel - outside? We will make a textured collage with nature items, explore a DJ who uses animal sounds to make music, and enjoy touching rough tree trunks, smooth, glossy leaves, silky flower petals, warm rock-faces and springy moss.

Cost $350/student/week. Program runs from 9am-4pm. Extended Day care offered from 4-5pm for an additional $60/student/week.

Wk 8 Summer Pond Study 8/11/25-8/15/25

This week, we will visit West Twin Pond to soak up the air - hazy with heat, and abuzz with insect life. With any luck we will find some frogs and toads, though the focus of our pond study will be the insect life in the pond and on the surface. We will do some pond dipping with nets and see if we can identify any of the insects we find. Back at LCS, we will draw and make some playdough replicas of the insects we find, talk about the food web, and spend some time exploring one of the creatures that we found.
