Lower Elementary
Grades 1-3
Upon entering a lower elementary classroom, one immediately notices the sense of calm and order, where children are engaged in a variety of self-directed activities. The lower elementary Montessori classroom, known internally as Elementary 1 or E1, is designed to be inviting and aesthetically pleasing, with natural light, carefully arranged learning materials, and open spaces that encourage movement and collaboration. Each student works at their own pace, choosing tasks from the well-organized shelves that cater to their developmental needs and interests. There is a gentle hum of focused activity as children explore subjects ranging from mathematics and language to science and the arts, guided by their intrinsic motivation and the prepared environment.
Collaboration and respect are cornerstones of the classroom atmosphere. Students work both individually and in small groups, often engaging in peer teaching and cooperative projects. Each lower elementary classroom includes three grades in order to encourage peer teaching and organically develop leadership and mentorship skills. The mixed-age setting allows older children to mentor younger ones, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect. Teachers, known as guides, move around the classroom observing and providing individualized support rather than leading from the front. This approach cultivates a sense of responsibility and self-discipline in students, as they learn to manage their own time and tasks. The atmosphere is one of peaceful productivity, where each child’s unique contributions are valued, and learning is a joyful, shared journey.

Drop In Care: Elementary & Junior High Extended Day
All students not involved in extracurricular activities who arrive prior to and/or stay beyond regular school hours (9:00 AM-4:00 PM) must attend the Extended Day program. Elementary/Junior High Extended Day is a drop-in program and is billed monthly based on attendance.
