Elementary
At Lake Country School, elementary students are encouraged to follow their curiosity, collaborate with peers in mix-age learning environments, and take on big work that inspires purpose, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Here are few reasons parents and caregivers choose Lake Country School for elementary and middle school:
The Farm Campus
One of Lake Country School's key differentiators from other elementary and Montessori schools is its 160-acre farm campus in rural Wisconsin called the Land School. Elementary students will take all-class day trips and overnights to the Land School and schedule ad hoc, self-directed excursions at any time. LCS's farm campus is the core of the LCS experience: Collaborative, hands-on learning, land stewardship, and building a lasting connection with nature.
Individualized Learning
Montessori teaching principles emphasize tailoring education to each individual child. It recognizes that no two children are alike, so why should their education be? Multi-age classrooms and highly-trained Montessori teachers (known as "guides") observe each child to discover each unique need.
Movement in the Classroom
Children learn with their whole bodies. The Montessori classroom is laid out in such a way that children may move about a space freely and work in ways that feel comfortable and conducive to learning.
Freedom to Choose
Children learn best when they get to choose what to learn—within reason. Montessori teachers set up classrooms strategically with specific materials and resources that children then have the freedom to choose based on their personal curiosity and interest. They may work collaboratively with classmate, or individually.
