The Land School Residency
Each Junior High student may elect to participate in a Land School Residency that takes place at the Land School during one of four six-week sessions over the school year. The activity during each residency varies somewhat according to the season, but includes academic, economic, and physical work. Students in residence complete a major Integrated Project that ties together a variety of subjects. The project demands research, scientific study or experiment, mathematics, eading of literature apropos to the subject, and a final presentation of the project. In addition, each student assumes a role as a manager of an Occupation on the farm or on the land. Occupations involve both deep physical work and a pertinent focused study. Land School Residencies are recommended for first-year and second-year students in the Junior High and required for all third-year students.
For a more detailed picture of what goes on during a Land School residency, see the article Residency at the Homestead from the LCS Summer 2005 Courier.
